The day began with a bell ringing by Irene Natividad, president of the Global Summit of Woman, which marked the kick-off of the summit, which this year was held in Spain.

The event was attended by Javier Hernani, CEO of BME, who emphasized that both BME and the SIX Group to which it belongs support the increase in the number of women directors on the boards of directors of listed companies. “Our strategy is to promote diversity in two ways: internally, as a company, and as a market infrastructure, in the eyes of issuers and market investors. With this objective in mind, BME launched the IBEX Gender Equality Index in 2021.”

Irene Natividad pointed out that women play a fundamental role in improving the economy of each country “since they account for 40% of the world's GDP, according to data from the consulting firm McKinsey.

In the afternoon, BME hosted the celebration of the tenth anniversary of “Women in ETFs” and the launch of the association in Spain. The event was attended by Beatriz Alonso-Majagranzas, BME's Head of Markets, together with Deborah Fuhr, co-chair of Women in ETFs for EMEA. During the session, participants listened to an inspirational talk by Isabel Rojas, a mental health expert.

“ETFs have become increasingly relevant globally over the years, and will continue to grow. At BME we want to continue participating in this process with the desire to increase the number of ETFs listed in the Spanish market,” said Beatriz Alonso-Majagranzas during her presentation.

Women in ETFs is an association that aims to connect, support and inspire women in the ETF industry by developing and supporting talent, recognizing the achievements and accomplishments of women in our industry and supporting equality, diversity and inclusion.

BME has more than 15 years of experience in the ETF segment, financial instruments that combine the diversification advantages of mutual funds with the flexibility of equity trading. BME provides an efficient, robust and secure trading system derived from its experience in the ETF market and the technological advantages of being part of the SIX Group.
