The Spanish stock exchange traded €60.4 billion in February

  • The number of equity trades in February grew 3% to 5.4 million
  • In February the trading volume in ETFs exceeded €755 million, reaching a monthly record high in the number of trades
  • The traded volume in IBEX 35 Futures in February was up 27% yoy
  • New issues of Corporate Debt on MARF in February reached €314 million in February, 15 times as much as last year  

 

Equities

The equity trading volume on the Spanish Stock Exchange in the first two months of the year totalled €134.7 billion, down 22% from the same period last year, in a context of low trading volumes at world level. In February the trading volume came in at €60.4 billion, down 25% from the same period in 2015.

The number of trades in the first two months of the year reached 10.6 million, down 13% from the same period the previous year. However the number of trades in February reached 5.4 million, 3% higher than a year ago.

As for the ETF segment, the trading volume to the end of February came in at €1.5 billion, down 20% from the same month a year earlier. The ETF trading volume in February in this segment came in at €755.4 million, down 23% from the same period a year earlier.

The number of ETF trades to the end of February totaled 34,126, up 17% year-on-year. In February the number of trades was 18,792, which marks a monthly record high and is 37% higher than a year earlier.

The trading volume on the Warrants and Certificates market in February reached €84.2 million, down 24% year-on-year. The trading volume in the first two months totaled €148.3 million, down 32% from the same period a year earlier.

The number of trades in February in this market totaled 19,215, down 16% from February 2015 while in the first two months the number of trades totaled 34,642.

Futures and Options

In February there was heavy trading in the main contracts, that is, Index Futures, with 685,288 IBEX 35 Futures and  368,043 IBEX Mini Futures traded, up 27% and 47.1% year-on-year respectively.

The trading volume in the first two months in the Derivatives market was down 14.6%, at over 6 million contracts.

Trading in Stock Derivatives was lower than last year, at 1,300.726 contracts, down 9.2%, while the trading volume in the first two months was up 9.7%.

Futures on Stock Dividends continued growing in the first two months of the year, with trading volume increasing 161% from the same period a year earlier and open interest growing 120%. Trading in Futures on IBEX Impacto Dividendo grew 94% in the same period, with open interest of 21,509 contracts, up 43% from the same period last year.

Corporate Debt

The trading volume on the Corporate Debt market in February came in at €16.3 billion, down 70.2% year on year. The volume of new issues in the first two months reached €54.9 billion.

New issues on MARF reached €314 million, 15 times as much as that for same month in 2015.

The trading volume on the SEND electronic trading platform in February reached €76 million, down 35.1% from February 2015, although it grew 29.4% from the previous month of January.

In February trading on BME’s Public Debt wholesale electronic platform, SENAF, reached €11 billion, up 41% year on year while in the first two months the trading volume totaled €20.5 billion.
