In this new edition of the Stock Market Competition www.elconcursodebolsa.com organised by BME in collaboration with Andbank, El Inversor Inquieto.es, Fundación María Jesús Soto and Diario de León, the number of participants has doubled compared to the previous year. Of the 1,900 participants, 1,400 are students from 91 schools in 44 different provinces throughout Spain.
The prize-giving ceremony took place on 17 November at Andbank's Annual Strategy Conference in León and was attended by Ignacio López, BME's Head of Equities Sales. BME collaborates with these conferences because of the company's commitment to promoting financial literacy. The best way to do this is to support actions such as this one, which help bring savers and investors closer to this knowledge of the financial markets.
The stock market contest is eminently educational and all contestants build a portfolio of securities and invest in companies on the Spanish continuous market, learning to trade on the stock market, buying and selling shares in real time and thus getting to know a greater number of listed companies in greater depth during the four weeks of the contest, from 10 October to 10 November 2022.
The final ranking is the result of awarding a points system, in which each parameter; profitability, volatility and formative achievements, occupies a percentage, as established in the rules. For the scoring, profitability and training are added together and volatility is penalised. Users with the most stable portfolios and the best achievements are rewarded, and not solely on the basis of final performance. The three winners invested mainly in the following companies: UNICAJA, AIRBUS GROUP, SOLTEC, AEDAS HOMES, NYESA, BODEGAS RIOJANAS, ADOLFO DOMINGUEZ, LINGOTES ESPECIALES, BERKELEY ENERGIA, SANTANDER and EZENTIS.
Finally, the 12 training videos specifically prepared by the BME Institute, which the contestants had to watch and answer questions about them in order to score points in the ranking, were very well received. Some of the key investment concepts covered were: Correlation and diversification, Risk-return binomial, Inflation as the savers' enemy and Compound capitalisation as the investors' friend.....
