BME advocates for gender equality in the performance of its daily work and supports different projects to spread its importance. One of them is the Bell Ring for Gender Equality, in which more than 80 markets from around the world participate. The initiative, organised by BME and by the Spanish Network of the United Nations Global Compact, is part of the international movement "Ring the Bell for Gender Equality", which is promoted by Sustainable Stock Exchanges and the United Nations Global Compact.
The encounter, more and more multitudinous every year, seeks to send the message that gender equality is essential to boost the world economy and highlight the importance of the private sector in this Sustainable Development Goal (no. 5).
This year, the UN Women’s theme for International Women’s Day 2021 – “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world” celebrates the tremendous efforts by women and girls around the world in shaping a more equal future and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Women leaders and women’s organizations have demonstrated their skills, knowledge and networks to effectively lead in COVID-19 response and recovery efforts. Today there is more recognition than ever before that women bring different experiences, perspectives and skills to the table, and make irreplaceable contributions to decisions, policies and laws that work better for all.
