Connection SMART

Protocols and Technical Access That Ensure Fast, Secure Order Execution

Connection Methods

MEFF has redundant central HOSTs at its two DPCs located in Madrid.

There are different connectivity solutions adapted to the needs and objectives of the Market Members. From among these possibilities one or more options can be chosen which best suit their requirements.

Duplicate services are also offered to minimise, as much as is possible, the non-availability of the connection.

Direct Connectivity Through BME-Managed Lines

This connection allows the Market Member to connect with the MEFF Host.

The communications infrastructure (lines, routers and electronics network) is managed by BME.

If necessary, due to the number of connections to be established, two MEFFAccess servers shall be installed at the Market Member's site to process orders and receive public information (Market data).

Communications are performed using two DPCs and preferably using two different telecommunications operators to ensure they continue functioning should there be a fault on one of the lines.

This type of connection can be carried out from any part of the world, although it should be mentioned that in addition to Madrid, BME has connection hubs in Barcelona, Bilbao, Valencia and London.

Direct Connection With Lines Managed by the Market Member

This connection allows the Market Member to connect with the MEFF Host using a communications infrastructure (lines, routers and electronics network) managed by the Member itself, which connects to the BME routers destined for this purpose.

The connection to the Host is carried out using shared MEFFAccess servers specifically for the members of this type of connectivity. These computers are located at the BME's DPCs (Madrid, Bilbao, Barcelona and Valencia).

Communications are performed using two DPCs and preferably using two different telecommunications operators to ensure they continue functioning should there be a fault on one of the lines.

Central System

MEFF has central HOST replicated in two sites (CPDs) located in Madrid.

One of the sites takes the role of active while the other remains as a hot backup. The active system processes the information contained in messages received from operators and generates response messages. The secondary system performs exactly the same processes except the diffusion of the response messages. This ensures that the backup system can take the role of active system when necessary.

Access nodes are the computers and devices to which Members are connected to access the processing systems. Each access node is connected to the two MEFF sites.

MEFF has access nodes in different geographic locations. The decision to constitute a node is taken when there is a critical mass of Members in the corresponding zone of influence. MEFF has double nodes in each of the following cities: Barcelona, Bilbao, London, Madrid and Valencia.

The access nodes are responsible for automatically directing the traffic to the central system that is active at all times. Similarly, if a problem occurs in one of the access nodes, the MEFF devices at the Member's premises detect the situation and switch to using the connection line with the other access node.

The dimensioning of the communication structure available to MEFF enables it to offer a high level of connectivity to Members from any access point. This, coupled with the computing capacity of the core systems, guarantees optimum operational throughput.

Meff Server

This software is only available in Spain.

MEFF's Front Office system is connected to the trading system, allowing it to access market data and the member's daily trading activity in real time. This information feeds spreadsheets and programs that help the trader in decision making.

The spreadsheets in MEFF Server offer information on: Theoretical prices of futures, yield calculations, duration, option price calculations, forward calculations, portfolio average price calculations, graphing of option strategies, calculation for roll-over quotation, as well as multimedia applications.
