BME's corporate purpose since its origins, to be a generator of financing for economies and welfare for citizens, is in itself a commitment to sustainability," says Javier Hernani, CEO of BME. In 2022, new resources were channeled to companies to the value of almost 7,000 million euros in equities and another 128,000 million euros in fixed income, to which should be added the more than 250,000 million euros of debt issues from Public Administrations. Its contribution to the growth of the business fabric is very significant in the case of smaller companies, to which it pays special attention through the BME Growth and MARF markets and the Pre Market Environment initiative. On the other hand, as manager of market infrastructures, BME contributes to the security, stability and innovation capacity of the economy thanks to the experience of its professionals and the technology it uses in its processes.

To promote this sustainability strategy, BME participates in different international initiatives with common objectives, such as Sustainable Stock Exchanges or the United Nations Global Compact, among others. It also adheres to the Code of Good Tax Practices. As part of the SIX Group, in recent months it has also intensified its concern for its impact on the environment and adopted a number of measures to reduce its emissions.

"Climate change concerns us all. That is why the company supports the Paris Climate Agreement and has signed the Charter of Commitment of the Scince Based Targets (SBTi) initiative," says Jos Dijsselhof, CEO of SIX and Chairman of BME.

Milestones include the integration of REGIS-TR 100% into BME's perimeter, the IPO of OPDenergy, the launch of the first digital bond, the agreement between the Spanish and Mexican stock exchanges on financial education and the adhesion to SBTi.

BME dedicates a section on its website to all actions related to sustainability. The section aims to disseminate the performance indicators, as well as the main axes on which the company's strategies and actions related to sustainability are deployed, and in which the Sustainability Report is also published.
