Founded in 1979 and based in Madrid, it was incorporated under Spanish law and is listed on the Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Bilbao stock exchanges. 2,700 of its nearly 6,000 stores are run under the franchise system. The Group has nearly 2,700 Dia stores and 1,000 Clarel stores in Spain, 500 Minipreço stores in Portugal, 700 Dia stores in Brazil and 900 in Argentina.
